SCR announce Junior League

Shakespeare County Raceway in association with Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars are pleased to announce the launch of the 2011 Shakespeare County Raceway Junior Dragster League, writes organiser Daren Brett. Following in the steps of our American cousins, the five-round Junior Dragster League will be held at the Midlands drag strip.

The League will be adopting the highly-regarded Supercharged Outlaw/Wild Bunch time trial format developed by Roy Wilding. During the course of last season the Raceway held a number of popular time trial shootouts with great success. Under this format all of those who entered enjoyed the maximum seat time, with no eliminations or pressure of red lighting: it's purely an ET-based time trial.

"Just before the Open Sport Nationals I was asked by Jeremy Cookson to look at the possibilities of the track running their own League programme", said Daren. "Before giving it more thought I was approached by Roy Wilding who there and then made a commitment to support the Juniors in any format we presented. Roy has put forward prize money and a winners shield as part of the prize fund.

"I was asked to form a small committee, and after a meeting at the track in November to discuss dates, prize fund and permitted index times in relation to age, that committee of moderators was formed with Carl Webb as Treasurer, Joanne Kopasz as Official Timing Officer and myself looking after PR and Marketing.

"The League dates were given a great deal of consideration to avoid conflicting with MSA and European rounds as much as possible. Knowing that we wouldn't be able to cover every angle a compromise was reached with the following dates counting towards the League. The only conflicting European date is 23rd-24th July, but this still doesn't hamper the running of the League as the best four out of five rounds will be counted but one attendance point will be missed."

The 2011 Junior Dragster League dates are as follow:

16th-17th April: Public Track Day Test and Tune
11th-12th June: Public Track Day/For Ladies That Launch Weekend
9th-10th July: British Mini Showdown and Public Track Day
23rd-24th July: Public Track Day Test and Tune
1st-2nd October: Public Track Day/Ford Fever Weekend
15th-16th October: Public Track Day League rain date

The following prize fund will be dependent upon a ten-car entry: first place £750, second place £400 and Best Reaction £150. There will also be round trophies for first to fourth place with a Best Reaction Trophy plus event prizes. The total cost for ten days will be £375. This will include entry for the driver and two adults and the track sign on fee for the weekend.

Rules and entry forms will be available via the Downloads section of SCR's web site at www.shakespearecountyraceway.com.

Shakespeare County would like to thank the following partners who have jumped onboard with commitments to the League's programme. They will also be promoting the Juniors through their own companies in 2011 and we sincerely hope we will have support and enthusiasm for some time to come:

Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars, Peter Walters Race Design, CC Medical Services, the Supercharged Outlaws, Fester Race Cars, Claron Graphics, Webb Express Couriers, and Classic Designs.

"We are committed to getting as many people involved as possible with frequent updates on Eurodragster.com and SCR's Junior Experience Facebook Page", said Daren. "Furthermore before the start of the season in April we expect to launch our own League web site once the domain is confirmed.

"Furthermore we are also hoping to have a Junior Dragster School Day in the summer holidays where the kids will be spend two days under supervision prior to a RWYB event building their own team flathead motors and racing them at the weekend, dates to be announced. I would also like to say a big thank you to Pete Walters of PWRD, who immediately stepped up with the offer of our superb League logo."
